Pure Sky
Pure Sky is a physical installation that proposes a method for understanding personal narratives around love through the sky, based on geopositioning and implemented through Unreal Engine & physical interaction.
Although the sky is as universal as it is expansive, it is not commonly understood to be a vessel for sentient connections & an influence for human behavior; Pure Sky intends to recontextualize this misunderstanding and visualize the sky as a common touchpoint for human connection and interaction, specifically by way of love.
A keyboard missing most keys and a monitor are set up together with a set of headphones; the 6 remaining keys represent the initials of people that I love and have loved, that are directly correlated to the individual longitude/latitude coordinates of each unique story and sky. Upon keyboard activation, a looping shot of a landscape at sunset in Unreal Engine displays on the monitor. A series of text and numbers line the upper corners of the interface. Subsequently, with each key press, a unique spoken narrative plays through the headphones, and accompanying subtitles & coordinates are composited over the simulated environment. The viewer may press specific keys by their own choice and listen to the accompanying narrative as the states of the sky & environment shift based on the coordinates of each story.
The viewers, by assuming the sly yet comfortable role of the voyeur within my intimate life, are thus made susceptible to understanding the sky as a mode and praxis of love, and are encouraged to adapt such ways of thinking and knowledge to applicable areas within their own lives.
